El territorio es uno mismo. Patrick Gläscher at Colección Rivarola – El Local

On October 6, Colección Rivarola – El local inaugurated El territorio es uno mismo (The Territory Is the Self), a solo exhibition by artist Patrick Gläscher, featuring a curatorial text by Cecilia Molina and produced in collaboration with Praxis Gallery. The exhibition brings together a series of graphite-on-wood landscapes that Gläscher has been developing for years, in which the sensory experience of the world intertwines with an inner dimension: the landscape—rather than merely a place to be described—functions as a threshold between what is contemplated outwardly and what leads inward.

A pivotal moment in the exhibition is found in Andes, a 1.80-by-7.80-meter work that dominates the gallery space. It is an expansive landscape of mountains, snow, and glaciers that unfolds before the viewer as a continuous, almost all-encompassing vision, altering the customary relationship with drawing: simply observing the image is no longer enough; one must traverse it with the eye and move physically in front of it.

Rivers, seas, mountains, and deltas run through the other works, serving not only as visual motifs but as ways of conceptualizing the relationship between nature, time, and identity. Executed in graphite on large-scale surfaces, the drawings create atmospheres where the visible and the evocative coexist—spaces where the material’s glazes, highlights, and densities generate a shifting substance that invites reflection on depth, distance, and movement.

Gläscher is involved in every stage of his work’s production: in addition to drawing, he spends much of his time preparing the wooden surfaces—applying multiple coats of white paint and sanding—and constructing the wooden supports for each piece. “I like doing it all—all those very different processes; not all of them are highly creative, but they give me pleasure,” he notes.

The artist has been working with Praxis Gallery for ten years, having held several solo exhibitions there, including ¿Si fuera aquello una isla? (What If That Were an Island?) (2024) and Nunca como en estos tiempos, como en estos tiempos, ha sido tan recurrente ese sueño en el que vuelo (2021). In 2023, the artist exhibited at the gallery’s New York location. Their work has been recognized in numerous exhibitions—including winning the First Prize for Drawing at the 2025 National Salon of Visual Arts—and is held in public and private collections both domestically and abroad.
