Praxis BA | Alejandro Gigli

Arquitectónica

In Alejandro Gigli’s latest works, geometric shapes take on the role of pieces of a puzzle: as if he were a tangram, the artist combines them to generate new spaces and new figures. In Arquitectonica, the contrast between previous works and more recent productions allows us to walk Gigli’s path, in which there was a first figuration that today is composed as a suggestive abstract geometry.

But this present abstraction does not prevent Gigli from generating enveloping spaces. Because that is exactly what the tangram is about: conjugating to put together new figures. Of starting from a known referent to create another. Thus, monuments, towers and temples are erected in front of us.

Workers and Kids from the Neighborhood, pieces made in 2010, show the spaces inhabited in our daily life. In the places we inhabit every day we establish small rituals, customs. From routines to cabals. This was Gigli’s starting point to arrive at Monumento flamígero or Monumento en cruz: new areas of contemplation, concentration and habits.

Architectural is presented to us as an exhibition full of corners to inhabit. Alejandro Gigli’s works, with their seemingly abstract constructions and everyday corners, allow time to be suspended. It is an invitation to occupy these new spaces for reflection. Welcome.
