CAESURA…metaphor of silence, of breath, the sacred emptiness of
Asian traditions, the pure potential between each thought or action,
our opportunity to transcend.
Praxis is pleased to be hosting artist Alex Paik (b. 1981, California, US) during the creation of a site specific installation at our space in Chelsea, at 501 W 20 street, NY, NY 10011.
Please join us while the artist is present at work, from Wednesday, March 13th until Saturday, March 16th, from 10 to 6 pm.
In the artist’s own words, “My work explores perception, reflected color, and improvisation within structure, taking cues and ideas from contrapuntal music and post minimalism. For the past few years I have been focusing on site-responsive paper installations that focus on a single geometric unit as its base. These installations are temporary and improvised onsite, with each exhibition becoming a different variation of the same piece. There is a tenderness and sadness in both the fragility of the materials as well as the ephemeral nature of the work’s form but at the same time there is an unlimited, even optimistic, potential for recombination.”
