As part of New York Art Week, Delfina Braun presented “ Opium Whispers ” in collaboration with composer Edo Costantini and architect Delfina Muniz Barreto , curated by Manuela Hansen . A private event for collectors, curators and close friends of the artists was held at Praxis , New York, on Thursday .
Opium Whispers is a celebration of Argentine talent, with the convergence of four artists who, from different disciplines, have created a unique interdisciplinary exhibition in New York City. The collaboration between Delfina Braun, Edo Costantini, Delfina Muniz Barreto and Manuela Hansen highlights the rich Argentine artistic tradition in a global context, reaffirming its relevance in the international art circuit.
In her work, Delfina Braun explores the deep connection between pain, healing, nature and the human psyche, using the opium plant as a central metaphor. Braun ‘s fascination with the healing power of plants, flowers and mushrooms is evident in this series of black and white drawings that portray the metamorphosis of the opium poppy, a plant that has accompanied humanity for millennia. These works highlight the beauty, mystery and power of nature in a contemporary context.
The exhibition also includes a central installation composed of the artist’s first sculptures, which are life-size bronze flowers from an opium field, accompanied by a musical setting designed by her husband, Edo Costantini . The music, inspired by the natural frequencies of the flowers, is imperceptible to the human ear and could only be captured under the influence of psychedelics. The exhibition invites the viewer to reconnect with the ancestral wisdom of nature, a theme long forgotten in modern Western culture. Delfina Muniz Barreto ’s collaboration in the creation of these three-dimensional sculptures was also essential, consolidating the cross-disciplinary approach between art, architecture and music.
