María Santi

White upon white, layer upon layer. Something familiar and something alien.

Exuberance and sobriety combined. Maria Santi work is seductive and intriguing.

The artist works overlapping layers; her technique seems to be focused on superimposing, overlaying images and textures on a single support however each one translucent. Nevertheless there are other issues that are entwined such as her ideas and what she is attracted to (e.i.: ornamental, sensory), which are mirrored in the way each piece of work is done. This is why her works can be appraised in a similar way, because different levels of depth are revealed to be appreciated by the viewer. María shows not just a landscape to be appreciated by the sense of sight, all senses are engaged. A motionless viewer facing the artists work will feel himself physically entwined in the fantasy and drama of the landscape.

Maria Santi through her attractive and provocative work, which seems to seize the spectator, summoning him to let go whatever anchors us to what is known, to abandon our comfort zones and allow ourselves to be led along the way, which can be many for there are not limits, and where we are guided mainly by feelings instead of observing just images.
