Claudia Vieira (b.1964, Porto Alegre, Brazil).
The physical action by Vieira’s drawing hand involves her whole body in a dance, in a primeval relationship that is well defined and pointed. Ceilings, floors, time and space should be abolished to facilitate the creation of Vieira’s new boundaries and the assimilation of spatial uncertainties. 

It is noteworthy that in Vieira’s work the central cavity is not a place of darkness. The hand that delineates the line surrounding the vortex purposefully construes an abyss of light, it preserves the white in its absoluteness, of rites of passage, of the disappearance of consciousness, of absences and presences. The color white acts on the soul as absolute silence, without life but filled by life’s potential. 

Under the apparent simplicity of lines, the artist superimposes the relationship to her origins in the open landscapes of the South American Pampas and affirms that a migrant’s journey is grounded to the earth, even if travel was aerial. Vieira’s work is ingrained in the contemporary ethos and reproduces a topological view of the footpath designed by the unstoppable frenzy of waves of humans switching lands. In her attempt to express herself, Vieira intuitively represents the individuals who follow lines of hope towards alternative territories and her quest may speculatively hint that the continuous spiraling proceeds to one’s innermost being, Heidegger’s metaphysical Dasein.
