ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
miart 2014 Milan
Curated by Abaseh Mirvali, Conflux is a newly created platform of the miart fair which will exhibit site-specific, solo or two artists projects and installations by international contemporary artists represented by prominent galleries from Latin American, the Near East and in specific cases from Africa, the far East, Europe and America. The five galleries participating in this section will be featured in the main section of Milan’s contemporary art fair.
Conflux will present the work of international galleries and artists, many well known in their region yet new to the European scene, others from Europe or North America with a solid international program. In this inaugural edition, there will be a special focus on artists and architects from Latin America, Near East and Central Asia – regions with rich and diverse contemporary art and architecture scenes – within the framework of a young and dynamic fair in Europe.
By developing a cohesive and high-quality project that seeks to highlight common languages and interactions, Conflux aims to put the focus on the artists’ works rather than their geographic origin, abandoning all cultural or geographic labels.
Conflux presents the perfect occasion for Italian and international collectors, institutions, visitors, critics and press alike to establish a dialogue with some of the most interesting contemporary artists, and to glimpse the points of convergence that they share with Milan, a city with a profound cultural background where contemporary and modern projects live side by side.
In the context of the fair, Conflux is conceived as a collaborative initiative where artists and gallerists will work hand by hand with curator and miart´s team to develop the projects offering a thorough curatorial approach, where the connection between each project and the context of the fair will be subtle, yet marked.
